Trap League Rules

The league is hosted and regulated by the Powder Creek Shooting Park located at 8601 Monticello Road in Lenexa, Kansas. The purpose is to provide an evening of fun, fair and competitive trapshooting open to all shooters of all abilities, novice to veteran. There are no gender or age limitations and no membership requirements in any shooting organization.

Powder Creek management will determine the duration of each league session. Currently, Powder Creek management anticipates two 12-week leagues (spring and summer) and one shorter fall league.

The league is based on team rather than individual competition. Scoring is based on total targets broken by the team.

At the end of each league, prizes are awarded to the teams according to the total cumulative targets broken during the league and to the shooter(s) with the highest cumulative average(s).

THE LEAGUE

The League is administered by the management of the Powder Creek Shooting Park, which includes scheduling dates and times of competition; tracking scores, team standings and individual shooter statistics; and accounting for the cost of targets and any other league expenses.

For any instance(s) not covered in these rules, the rules of the Amateur Trapshooting Association will apply. Specifically, see the latest version of ATA Official Rules. Powder Creek management will have a copy of these rules available for reference.

TEAMS

Teams are composed of a minimum of 5 shooters, with up to two substitutes.

Team Captains

A captain is responsible for representing the team. The captain is responsible for collecting fees from team members, including the sponsor fee and making one payment to Powder Creek Shooting Park prior to the start of the league. The Captain will also assign squad members their shooting positions each night and ensure the recording accuracy of their team's score sheets. If a team wins prizes/trophies at the conclusion of the season, the captain is responsible for distribution to the individual team members. Captains are chosen at each team's discretion.

Team Fees

Each team is assessed a one-time sponsor fee to cover administrative and/or prize and trophy expenses each league. Powder Creek management determines the amount of that fee. The team captain is responsible for payment of this fee to Powder Creek prior to the start of the league.

Limitations

No shooter may shoot for more than one team per league. Any shooter's score appearing on other than their original team's score sheet will not be scored or recorded. Exceptions to this rule may be made by Powder Creek management in cases of a team dropping out of the league with team members who would still like to compete.

Members of all teams compete for the season High Gun Award based on the highest broken target average (targets broken divided by targets attempted). A shooter may miss up to two shooting cycles and remain eligible for the high gun award.

COMPETITION AND SCORING SYSTEM

Each competition cycle (one week's shooting) will include a 16-yard singles event and a handicap event, each consisting of 125 targets per team.

Scoring

All scores will be recorded and reported by an employee of Powder Creek on a standard target score sheet. The score sheet will identify the date, the team name, and the team members shooting.

16-Yard Singles Each team will shoot a total of 125 targets (25 targets per shooter) from the 16-yard line. The team's 16-yard average will then be calculated by dividing the total targets hit by the number of shooters (usually 5), rounded to the nearest whole number.

Handicap

The team's handicap yardage is determined by adding two (2) to the team's 16-yard average for the given competition cycle. (The average is not cumulative throughout the league duration.) The team will then shoot 125 handicap targets (25 targets per shooter) with all shooters shooting from the established handicap yardage. Example: if a team's 16-yard average is 23, the handicap event will be shot from the 25-yard line.

Team Score

The team's score for the competition cycle is the sum of the total targets broken for the team from the 16-yard singles event and the handicap event.

Score Tracking

The Powder Creek management will be responsible for tracking and posting individual and team scores on the bulletin board and to the web site within 24-hours of the completion of the competition cycle. All score sheets will be verified and maintained by Powder Creek management to ensure accuracy and compliance with league rules. All score sheets will be available for review by any league member.

Number of Shooters A team must field a minimum of three shooters for the competition cycle. If the team has 3 or 4 shooters, a score of 15 broken targets is recorded for the absent shooter(s) for both the 16-yard singles and handicap. These numbers will not be used when calculating the team's average from the 16-yard event in establishing the team's yardage for the handicap event. If a team cannot field the minimum required 3 shooters, it is considered a "no-show" and will receive no (0) targets for the competition cycle.

SCHEDULING

League shooting will be held on Tuesday nights beginning at 6:00 p.m. All 16-yard shooting will be completed on Trap 2 and all handicap shooting will be completed on Trap 3. These trap assignments may be changed in the event of mechanical problems, or at the discretion of the Powder Creek management. However, every attempt will be made to use Traps 2 and 3 throughout the duration of the league. Cancellations, Make-ups, Shoot-Aheads: In case of adverse weather (heavy rain, lightning, sleet, snow), power outages or mechanical failures, the Powder Creek management will decide whether to delay, reschedule or cancel the night's competition. Make-ups are not allowed except for partial cancellations of an evening's competition and must be made-up by the end of the following week's competition cycle. If competition is stopped mid-squad and canceled for the night, the make-up will begin where the canceled squad was interrupted (using the same shooters).

Make-up for a missed night's (no-show) match is not allowed except for extraordinary situations, as determined by Powder Creek management.

"Shoot-aheads" are not permitted except for an extraordinary situation, subject to approval of Powder Creek management.

Target Color

Target color will be black with an orange dome for daylight competition and all orange for nighttime. A change from black/orange to orange must be made at the beginning of a round of 25 targets. Once the change from orange dome to solid orange is made, the trap will throw solid orange for the duration of the competition cycle. TARGET COLOR WILL NOT BE CHANGED AFTER THE ROUND HAS STARTED.

EYE AND EAR PROTECTION

Eye and ear protection is required of all shooters, no exceptions.

FINAL AUTHORITY

For matters not covered in these bylaws or ATA rules, Powder Creek management will have final authority. League members are encouraged to offer suggestions or ideas to Powder Creek management for changes and improvements to these rules. The decision to pursue any changes will rest with Powder Creek management. Powder Creek management may poll team captains for their opinions on an issue prior to making a decision.

RULES CHANGES

Any changes to the above rules will be made effective at the beginning of the next league session; no rule changes will be made during a league in progress.

All standard Club Rules are applicable and must be followed for safety.
